The Marajo Initiative

map

Greenpower Fuels has entered into an agreement with Bio Assets Ativos Ambientais LTDA, of Brazil for the joint development of an integrated algal water treatment, green fuels and osmotic power plant initiative.

The runoff and blending of river freshwater into the salty ocean water provides the potential osmotic power utilizing the electrical gradient differential of the salt concentration charges. At the mouth of the Amazon, such a difference could potentially be up to 20% of the world’s osmotic power resources.

Through the production of treated water through algae on site, the concentration levels then provides a basis to produce local, carbon-free distributive energy along with an algae growing system for water treatment and greenfuels production.

The Marajo site provides a superb confluence of location potential for such power generation along with an excellent algal and habitat site in an area strongly supportive of carbon-free sustainable development.

GRTE Thai/Cambodia Initiative

activity

Greenpower Fuels has entered into an agreement with GRT Energy of Thailand for the joint development of an algal wastewater treatment and biofuels production facility.

To be located at various sites in Northeast Thailand and along coastal Cambodia, the agreement covers development for up to 20,000 hectares for biofuels production and wastewater associated with municipal and industrial sites in the region.

Due to serious environmental pressures from rapid economic and population growth, Northeast Thailand and coastal Cambodia are experiencing supply pressure for treated water due to competing uses and both environmental degradation from insufficiently treated wastewater. In addition, rising energy prices have weakened the availability of affordable energy for economic development, thereby undermining growth and poverty alleviation in the regions.

Other Activities

  • Development of an intra-Asia biomass pelletization and logistics consortium between NE Asia, SE Asia and South Asia
  • Early stage development of an algal water-treatment osmotic power plant project at a 98,000 ha site on Brazil’s largest alluvial island
  • M&A advisory for energy efficiency manufacturing expansion in SE Asia from North Asia
  • Early-stage development of an algal wastewater remediation/biofuels study for Thailand/Cambodia
  • Preliminary development of a pilot project for biofuels development in the Middle East
